The world traveller returns to the front gate of the family home. Times change and memories fade. Four siblings return to their roots and are faced with the decision of whether to sell their father’s house, their home; childhood dynamics and memories re-emerge, and the complexities of family bonds are exposed and examined in this heart-warming and compelling story.  

Fresh after the success of its acclaimed Sydney season at the iconic The Old Fitz Theatre, New Ghosts Theatre Company presented the WA premiere of The Wind in the Underground at the State Theatre Centre’s Studio Underground in early 2018, as part of Fringe World and The Blue Room Theatre’s illustrious Summer Nights program.

The Fringe season marked a homecoming for New Ghosts as well as its Perth born and raised cast and collaborators, as they continue to set a new benchmark for fresh, creative and entertaining independent theatre on the East Coast. 

Written by Perth born and raised playwright Sam O’SullivanThe Wind in the Underground is inspired by O’Sullivan’s own journeys, family experiences and the houses he remembers, growing up in Perth’s eastern hills.

Directed by New Ghosts founder and artistic director Lucy Clements the production features an incredibly talented cast including professional stage actors Bishanyia Vincent (One Flew Over the Cuckoos Nest – Sport for Jove, A Christmas Carol – KXT, Lighten Up – Griffin Theatre Company), Whitney Richards (La Marea – PIAF, ShrineFlood, Boy Gets Girl and Arcadia – Black Swan State Theatre Company, AnytownMummy Loves you Betty Ann JewelHouse of Fun and Apocalypse Perth – The Blue Room Theatre), Michael Abercromby (Lucidity – The Old Fitz and The Blue Room Theatre, Dirty PeopleSex ObjectFRONT and The Pitch – JackRabbit Theatre) and Rowan Davie (MacbethHamletOut of JointSuch Sweet Sorrow and Double Trouble – Bell Shakespeare,  Angels in America: Millennium Approaches – Monkey Baa and Crimes of the Heart and La Boite/Motherboard: Or Forever Hold Your Peace – Redline Productions).

With a star-studded cast, and an exceptional script, The Wind in the Underground received rave reviews and a Fringe World Festival Theatre Nomination.
