A message from NGTC Founder Lucy Clements

To our wonderful community,

I am writing today to thank you for being here. The Performing Arts cannot function in solitude – we rely on you in every part of what we do.

At this moment, June 2023, our local arts community is struggling. In the midst of recovering from years of lockdowns and uncertainty, we now see the impact of rising living costs drastically affecting audiences and their capacity to return to theatres, and taking chances on new work. Compounding the problem further, Covid relief from government has well and truly come to an end. The latest round of Create NSW funded only 16% of applicants – with the Theatre Panel awarding funding to just five organisations state-wide. We weren’t one of them.

Despite all this, we have the foundations in place to rise above these challenges, with your help.

In 2019, New Ghosts Theatre Company was a sole-tradership, run by only me. Just a few years on, we’re an Australian Not-For-Profit and Registered Charity, run by an incredible Board of Directors, in addition to our Producer Emma and myself. We’re coming off the back of two Sydney Theatre Awards, and have just closed our critically acclaimed homegrown work, Girl Band. 2024 is already shaping up to be even more ambitious and exciting, with five more plays in development.

Our Board and team all work in a volunteer capacity, but our projects can’t operate without funding. That’s why I am asking for your support today, by joining our Bronze Supports with a $100 EOFY tax-deductible donation. This vital support will allow us to continue developing and presenting new work, and support emerging Australian artists and storytellers.

We know we have a young community, and one that is also full of fellow artists. Please know that every dollar does count, and even the smallest of donations will have the largest of impacts, when backed by a community. And to those who don’t have the capacity to donate this EOFY, we thank you wholeheartedly for joining us as advocates, in our production teams, and our audiences.

With lots of love and gratitude,

Lucy Clements
